Centro Hispano announces Education Equals Prevention, a free sexual assault awareness conference on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Provo City Library ballroom with keynote speaker Utah State Attorney General Sean Reyes.

“We are honored to have Attorney General Sean Reyes as our keynote speaker,” says Adrian R. Escalante, Executive Director of Centro Hispano. “Sexual assault is a serious issue in every state and this conference brings the community together to make positive changes in our neighborhoods.”

The Education Equals Prevention will include breakout sessions in both Spanish and English where parents will receive tips on how to talk to their teens about sex, and community members will learn about the Provo Police Department’s “Start By Believing” campaign.

“These are difficult subjects to discuss, but education is key to preventing abuse and sexual assault in our communities,” says Abraham Hernandez, Education Program Coordinator at Centro Hispano. “With 1 in 3 females and 1 in 6 males being sexually assaulted by the age of 18, we need to let go of the awkwardness of having ‘the talk’ and give our youth the tools they need to stay safe.”

Open to the entire community free of charge, the sexual assault awareness conference does require a ticket for admission. Spanish interpretation is available for non-English speakers during English-only presentations. Partnering agencies will have informational booths before and after the conference.
