Last summer, Lance and Melanie Wilson had the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic and help build houses for locals and refugees. It was a wonderful and eye-opening experience. While they were there, they met a man named Jonny who was a refugee from Haiti. Jonny has five children and works hard helping others build homes so he could earn enough for his own home, but with the low pay, he has only been able to cover food and basic expenses.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always encouraged members to serve and love one another. Over the past year, the church has started the Refugee Relief program, which encourages members to help refugees around the world when able. Many people have put together hygiene packets and donated money to help this cause.
We are now trying to raise enough money to build Jonny and his family a home. To help with this cause, we have organized a 5K run/walk on Thursday, April 28, at 6:30 pm at Canyon View Park in Spanish Fork. Registration is $15 per person or whatever you’re willing to donate.
