David Ray Hood, 79, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2022.

David was born on December 14,1942 in Tennessee to Charles (Charlie) Hood and Nettie Fay McCloud. He moved to Utah when he was a young child. He entered the workforce at the age of 12 to help support his family, and continued to do so all of his life. Over the years he had many jobs including; transporting cars, owning a small auto shop, working at Swenson’s Metal Salvage, and working in the coal mines.

He was a HUGE fan of “The Duke”, and proudly told everyone that would listen that he met and worked for the great John Wayne!

David couldn’t be kept down. He was spunky and active. He would walk around town every chance he got. He loved spending his free time going to wrecking yards, thrift stores, yard sales, and swap meets. He enjoyed gambling, fishing, tinkering with everything, watching westerns, pretty much anything with 4 wheels, and cheating at card games.

David was survived by his children: Carl (Nolene) Hood, of Springville, and Marina Galindo of Payson, Daughter in law Tammy Porter. David was the proud grandpa of 9 grandchildren: Amy Johnson Anderson, Casey Hood, Tonya (George) Patino, Bobby Hood, Cassandra (Alex) Doty, Candace Hood, Alexander Schirmer; and 17 great-grandchildren: Haley, Cheyenne, Shawnee, Vannessa, Jazmine, Damian, Logan, Carmen, Adryanna, Emiliano, Javier, Esperanza, Kyurem, Zephyr, Ember, and Ariel. Last but definitely not least, his dogs, his babies, Bandit & Cocoa.

David is preceded in death by his wife Nila of 57 years, parents Netti Fay & Charlie, in law’s Grant & Grace Norwood, brothers Truman, Chester & Billy Ray, as well as 2 grandchildren: Kelly Hood, Ashly Schirmer Mangelson, and his great grandson Miguel Hernandez Jr.

David leaves behind a legacy of sass, personality, goofy humor, and a don’t quit spirit that lives on in many of us. He’s probably flashing you from heaven right now.

A small memorial will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Payson City Cemetery located at 400 North 800 East, Payson Utah.
