Bakers Acres K9 Academy: ‘The family that trains together, stays together’

Have you been struggling to train your family dog even though you’ve watched every online tutorial, purchased every training device and even invested in doggy training camps? If so, Bakers Acres K9 Academy in Springville just might put the family back into “family pet.”

We began training dogs by chance when our neighbors asked us to watch their dog while they were out of town. From there, we became known as the neighborhood dog sitters, and on a whim, I (Sara) posted an ad in the local classifieds, and we started getting calls from all over the county.

We were doing pretty well with just the dog sitting, but I knew that we could do more. At the end of every stay, I would talk to the owners about what we did and what their dog learned while they were with us. I would give them brief instructions to follow at home, and owners were finding that their dogs behaved much better than they had before staying with us.

Due to this, we started getting messages from customers saying things like, “You watched Molly for us a while back and every time she stays with you she’s really, really good. Can you teach us to train our dog? We’ll pay you!”

Of course we said, “Yes!”

Each year we’ve seen tremendous growth and demand for training with instant and lasting results for families on a busy schedule. This is why we’ve developed programs specific to each customer’s needs.

We live for moments like the one we had with Gideon, a 115 lb. German Shepherd/Labrador who was struggling with something as simple as going for a walk. He was so difficult that his owners hadn’t been able to walk him in six years! They had tried everything they could think of, reaching out to multiple trainers, watching YouTube videos, and attempting to walk him with every known training collar/leash/harness on the market.

I knew that there must be a way I can help Gideon quickly and easily enjoy walks with the whole family. I gave the wife a few instructions and she walked confidently up the sidewalk and back, crying, “I have my puppy back! I can take him for a walk!”

Our job is not to just train the dog; it’s to help the whole family work together as a team.

Our favorite thing about this business is watching the dog owner come to the realization that they can do it. We want to empower them not just with tools, but with the hands-on knowledge and troubleshooting skills to develop a relationship of trust and respect with their dog.

We’re not the dog whisperers. You are! Our mission is to keep the family dog in the home with their family. No more dropping the family dog at the shelter because of bad behavior. After all… The family that trains together, stays together!
