Utah Couple Donates Free Baby Loss Funeral Flowers From Their Flower Farm to Grieving Local Parents

Jordy and Spensor Smith know the devastating pain of losing a child. They’ve experienced it not just once, but twice. The Spring Lake couple now uses that pain as a driving force to help other parents heal by offering free baby loss funeral flowers. The beautiful arrangements come from the Smith’s own lovingly tended local flower farm, Wildspring Flowers.

In 2022, the Smith’s dreams of starting a family were shattered when their first child, Liam died in the womb at 22 weeks. Jordy delivered her son’s tiny stillborn body on February 9, 2022. In 2023, the Smith family prepared to welcome another baby, Lillie into the family. She was born prematurely at 24 weeks due to pregnancy complications and died 25 days later. After the unimaginable loss of her second child, Jordy’s doctor informed her she would no longer be able to have children.

Though Jordy and Spensor’s story is a heartbreaking one, it’s not what they choose to focus on. Instead, they hope to heal some of that pain by reaching outward and helping other grieving parents. After the loss of Liam and while she was still pregnant with Lillie, Jordy decided to start a flower farm. Inspired by the Instagram influencer Erin Benzakein (FloretFlower), Jordy brought Wild Spring Flowers to life.

“My biggest purpose for the farm is to provide free funeral flowers for loss baby funerals in the Utah County area to parents that are financially in need,” Jordy said. “I want my flower farm to be a place where loss babies are remembered and loss parents are seen.”

Grieving local parents can choose between a large flower arrangement or a casket spray. The farm is a seasonal one, which means farm-grown flower arrangements are typically available between the months of August and October. However, donations and proceeds from the farm make it possible for Jordy to obtain and offer complimentary funeral flowers year-round.

To further support parents who have lost babies and children, Jordy is also preparing to host remembrance nights at her flower farm. After gauging community interest, she soon realized that local parents want a safe place to talk with others about the babies they loved and lost.

“It doesn’t necessarily feel like many people acknowledge the baby or the parenthood of the parents  who have lost the baby.” Jordy said. “So, to know that someone who has gone through it supports you, I think that’s important.”

Jordy recognizes that everyone grieves differently. Some want to share stories about their baby and their loss experience with whoever will listen. Others may not want to mention their baby because it’s too painful. Jordy stresses that every loss parent is welcome to come to remembrance night, whether they want to share their story or not. They can clip flowers and leave without saying a word, or they can sit down and talk about their experience with other parents who understand how they feel.

Wild Spring Flowers also offers U-pick events from August through October. Families and individuals can visit the farm with clippers and a bucket to pick their own bouquets. All proceeds go first and foremost toward providing year-round flowers to grieving parents. However, the Smiths also hope to use some of the funds from U-pick events to help pay for a gestational carrier so they can continue their dream of raising a family.

Anyone interested in attending remembrance nights or U-pick events at Wild Spring Flowers can learn more from Jody’s Instagram. This is where she posts current information about her flower farm and upcoming events. Donations to the site wildspringflowers.com are also always appreciated and welcome. All donations help provide funeral flowers for babies and their grieving parents.
