Spanish Fork Scenthound Aims to Bridge the Gap Between Traditional Grooming and Vet Care

Scenthound, a Florida-based business providing grooming and routine care services for dogs, recently opened a new franchise location in Spanish Fork. Residents of Spanish Fork and surrounding areas can now schedule a variety of basic hygiene services for their canines by telephone, mobile app, or directly through the business website.

Spencer Strong, owner of the Scenthound location in Spanish Fork, is passionate about proper canine care. When asked what makes Scenthound different from dog grooming and other similar businesses, he listed many.

“We really bridge the gap between traditional grooming and vet care,” he said. “What I mean by that is that vets are very expensive, so people don’t get there very often. And groomers have their package that is often focused more on the aesthetic rather than the health side. … We offer a basic hygiene package. Everything we do is focused on the health and wellness of the dog. All dogs need their teeth cleaned, nails trimmed, and a bath.”

Strong added that in addition to the hygiene package, Scenthound also includes an ear cleaning and a check of the skin, coat, and glands.

Scenthound in Spanish Fork is conveniently located near Macey’s and other businesses. Since the basic hygiene service only takes about 20-25 minutes to complete in most cases, clients can quickly run to the store or shop at another nearby business, then go back and pick up their dog after its service.

“Our care club has no contract; it’s all month-to-month,” Strong explained. “We do it that way so it’s an auto-reminder for parents. Life gets busy and difficult. But once a month, your dog needs their teeth brushed. If you take care of their oral health, they’ll live 3-5 years longer.”

Scenthound also offers middle- and highest-tier memberships. In addition to all of the services included in the basic care package, these memberships also provide a nail grind, additional discounts, and 24/7 virtual vet access. This can help clients potentially save money on their dog’s minor health concerns that don’t necessarily require the help of an in-office vet.

Clients who bring their dogs to Scenthound, also receive a type of report card at the end of each visit that shows how the dog is doing in terms of basic health and hygiene. These charts can provide valuable insights regarding health trends such as changes in the teeth, nails, coat, or weight. Scenthound uses that information to be more preventative with their care rather than reactive.

Many people love their regular dog groomers and don’t want to replace them. Strong made it clear that he doesn’t want to eliminate the need for beloved groomers.

“There are a lot of people who still stick to their groomer, but they come to us just as an in-between solution for just those hygiene items,” he explained. “And with us tracking their health with that report card that we offer, enables them to understand what may be lacking at home or if there’s a supplement we can offer to better take care of their dog.”

Strong has big hopes for the future. Next year, he’s planning to open two more locations—one in the Provo/Orem area and one in Pleasant Grove. He plans to open an additional eight to 10 Scenthound locations in other Utah County locations within the next five years.

If you plan to take your pooch to Scenthound, it’s best to schedule an appointment in advance. Even though the location is very new, it’s already quite busy. According to Strong, they can occasionally accommodate walk-ins, but it’s wise to schedule in advance for the quickest service. The business’ current operating hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. These hours may be subject to change.

For new clients, Scenthound offers a trial visit for just $39, which includes all of the services in the basic care plan package. You can schedule an appointment by calling 801-754-6509 or by clicking on the “Book a Trial” link on the website
