The Mapleton Senior Citizens Committee is comprised of local seniors who advocate for the well-being of Mapleton’s older residents. They find opportunities to foster and support community connections by overseeing the Senior Gym (located in the basement of the Mapleton City Building), partnering in events during the City’s annual Pioneer Days Celebration, and hosting monthly luncheons to provide a good meal and conversation for Mapleton’s senior citizen population. Part of the Mapleton Senior Citizens Committee’s mission is to support humanitarian projects in our community. They hold a hot dog dinner fundraiser during Pioneer Days collect donations for their humanitarian fund to award to different worthy causes in the community.
This year, the Mapleton Senior Citizens Committee donated a record-breaking $3,650 to local causes. These donations were awarded at their October luncheon. A $500 donation was presented to each public school located in Mapleton: Mapleton Elementary, Hobble Creek Elementary, Maple Ridge Elementary, Maple Grove Middle, and Mapleton Junior High. A $500 donation was also presented to the Mapleton Fire Association for their annual Sub-For-Santa initiative, and a $650 donation was presented to the Mapleton Police Department for their upcoming Shop With a Cop event. These donations exemplify Mapleton City’s motto, “Small Town. Big Heart.” both on the committee’s part, and the community’s generosity in whole. Thank you to all who made this possible!
