A Spanish Fork-based program aiming to get children and teens off screens during the summer is thanking the community and their sponsors for what it calls “a huge success.”
PlayOn, created by Salem State Farm Insurance and former Utah Utes tight end Colt Sampson, has a goal of getting kids off their phones and outside. The program offers various activities, including opportunities to serve that are sponsored by local organizations for kids to do, all while earning “badges.”
“Thanks to your generous support, PlayOn has become an incredible force for good this summer—and we can’t thank you enough for being part of it,” Sampson said. “Nearly 10,000 kids and their families have participated in PlayOn so far, and the numbers speak for themselves”
Sampson noted that over 118,000 badges were collected; 1,900 seeds planted; 18,000 pieces of litter picked up; 1,000 kids tried something new or brave; 1,500 acts of kindness performed; thousands of dollars grabbed in the money machine; 42,000 hours spent screen-free; 2,000 pounds of food donated; and over 6,000 rewards redeemed—”and counting.”
“And we’re not done yet,” Sampson said. “There are still three weeks left for families to collect badges and participate. We’ve officially surpassed all expectations and we know that wouldn’t have been possible without you (the sponsors). Our hope is that PlayOn families are also supporting your business in return, visiting your locations, and feeling the spirit of community that this program was built on. At its heart, PlayOn is about uniting the community through play and shared purpose.”
Badges can be collected through August 9, and families can continue to redeem awards through August and September.
“We’re here to help and we look forward to finding more ways to spotlight and support your business in the months ahead,” Sampson said. “… Together, we’ve made a meaningful impact—and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
