The Springville Kiwanis Club is grateful to once again report a highly successful annual Food Drive and Sub-for-Santa project, made possible by the generosity, service, and compassion of the Springville community.
For more than 30 years, this cherished holiday tradition has brought neighbors together to care for those in need, and this year was no exception. In the weeks leading up to the drive, thousands of residents, volunteers, churches, schools, businesses, and civic groups worked together to ensure families across Springville would feel supported during the holiday season.
On the day of the food drive, more than 204 volunteers officially signed in, with many more contributing their time before, during, and after the event. In total, the project represented more than 2,000 hours of community service. Volunteers included members of the Springville Kiwanis Club, Key Club students, Springville High School basketball team, church organizations, and community members who stepped up to help wherever needed.
This year, volunteers packed 460+ meat-packing boxes of food, each weighing approximately 50ā60 pounds, totaling nearly 30,000 pounds of food.
Of those boxes, 367 were distributed to Springville families through local church wards, and approximately 100 were distributed through Nebo School District programs and the Community Action Food Pantries
Each box distributed to families included a $50 gift card, helping recipients purchase fresh and essential items. These gift cards were made possible through funds raised at the Kiwanis Art City Days Scone Booth, generous local sponsors, and a significant contribution from Reams, who donated $10 per box, totaling $3,750. Combined with Kiwanis funds, over $15,000 in gift cards were distributed this year. Reams continues to be a tremendous supporter of the Springville community and this annual effort.
In addition to food and gift cards, 90 Springville Recreation sports vouchers were awarded to youth who want to play city sports but are unable because of financial circumstances.
This year also included a special focus on students. 150 holiday gift stockings, generously donated by the Springville-Mapleton Chamber of Commerce, were filled with goodies and distributed to high school students. These stockings were prepared and organized with the help of student volunteers and community partners, spreading extra cheer during the season.
The Springville Kiwanis Club extends heartfelt thanks to:
Reams, for donating 11,000 food bags and their generous financial support
Copies Plus Printing who donated 11,000 bag labels and box inserts
