Merit Academy fundraiser aims to provide desperately needed resources for students in Kenya

It is Merit Academy’s 10th anniversary helping our sister schools in Kenya, Africa.

In 2011, Merit teamed up with Kenya Keys, a nonprofit organization committed to helping educate children in Africa.

That year we adopted Mtulu, an elementary school in remote Kenya. In 2012-13 we held 5K races to help build a four stall latrine for the students. Later we continued to fundraise to help them build classrooms and supply learning materials.

In 2017, during a famine in Kenya, our school’s chef, Sharon Warner, woke up in the middle of the night feeling like the children at Mtulu were starving. She and the students at Merit made 2,000 cinnamon rolls to raise $2,000, which helped provide 7,000 meals for the students. In 2019, we raised money that helped build a school for students attending school in a tin shed.

This year, we are helping provide desks for students in various schools throughout Kenya. Please support this great cause by purchasing a desk for $25 at meritprepacademy.org.
