Shaun Black, welding teacher at Payson High School, for Nebo School District was selected as the Utah Section Educator of the Year by the American Welding Society.
Black was also selected as the Educator of the Year for the 2019 school year and representative Gordon Reynolds awarded Shaun the plaque in February. Some of Black’s accomplishments include coordinating the Nebo School District Welding Programs among all five schools/instructors by starting a “Trikefest” which is now called the Utah Valley CTE Expo that invites all Career Technology Education subjects and promotes competition state-wide for students.
Black organizes a welding competition that prepares the students for SkillsUSA at the district and regional levels. He has served on the MTech articulation committee and helped shape the future for many students who have entered the welding industry. Nebo students and teachers look forward to the Utah Valley CTE Expo that will be held May 21. (Serve Daily submission.)
