Good day friends and neighbors. I would like to introduce myself as a contributing writer to the Serve Daily family of readers.
My name is Kevin Jennings. I live with my wife, Carol, in Spanish Fork. Carol and I met in Provo while we both were attending BYU. After dating for a couple of months, we got engaged and then married. We have been best friends for almost 42 years now.
We have six children – all are boys except five. We also have five grandchildren – all girls – really. The last two girls were born at the end of April and they are twins just like their mom.
I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and then as a teenager, I moved with my family to Glendale, Arizona during the month of July no less. It was the hottest July I’d ever known.
The extreme summer heat of Arizona is one of the reasons I love living in Utah. Plus, I love the beautiful mountains that surround us here, as well as the genuinely friendly folks that have become our friends and neighbors.
When I was much younger, I had a few different newspaper routes. I delivered the papers in sun, rain, and snow. I quickly learned the value of work and doing things right the first time. I’ve been able to preserve those qualities no matter the job at hand.
As part of this first “get to know me” column, let’s see if you can guess which one of these three are true about me:
1. I once helped prepare the auditorium for a dinner and a speech given by the very famous Shirley Temple – yes, the Shirley Temple.
2. I once had a job washing windows on brand new homes that included removing stickers and the over-sprayed paint and drywall mud at the rate of $5 per house, inside and out.
3. I once had a big weight issue that threatened my health. As a result of being persistent, I have lost well over 230 pounds and am still losing.
If you guessed number 1, you’d be right! Then again, if you guessed number 2, you’d also be correct. And if you thought number 3 was true about me, that would also be valid.
I have experienced all three of those scenarios and I look forward to sharing even more encounters with you inside these pages.
I hope that I may be a positive influence for the many great things that are cultivated in our homes and communities. I am excited to be associated with Serve Daily and to be a voice for good in our little corner of the world.
