UVU WAC Women’s Soccer Tournament Bracket Released

r The 2016 WAC Women’s Soccer Tournament bracket was released today by the conference office and the Wolverines have earned the No. 4 seed and will take on fifth-seeded New Mexico State in a first round match on Thursday at Durwood Soccer Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Kickoff for the match is set for 3 p.m. MT/4 p.m. CT

The fourth-seeded Wolverines wrapped up regular season play this past week with a 3-1 setback to regular season WAC champion Seattle U. UVU concluded regular season play with a 9-7-2 overall record and a 3-3-1 WAC mark to finish fifth in the league standings.

Utah Valley heads into the tournament as the defending champion after the Wolverines won their first-ever WAC title in Bakersfield last year to earn the league’s automatic birth to the NCAA Tournament.

UVU will take on No. 5 New Mexico State with the winner advancing to Friday’s semifinal match against top-seeded Seattle U. The tournament championship match will be held onSunday, Nov. 6.

Utah Valley and New Mexico State meet on the pitch for the sixth time on Thursday with the Wolverines holding an all-time 3-0-2 advantage over the Aggies. It will mark the first time that the two teams have met in tournament play. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw earlier this season in Las Cruces.

The Wolverines hold an all-time 3-2 record at the WAC Tournament since joining the league in 2013. Utah Valley went a perfect 2-0 at the tournament last year with wins over UMKC and Seattle U. UVU holds an all-time 1-1 record in first round games at the tournament. The team had a first-round bye in last year’s tournament.
