Obituary: Chandra Alred Nielson

March 8, 1955 – March 16, 2025 • Springville
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Chandra Alred Nielson, who left us on March 16, 2025 at the age of 70.
She was born on March 8, 1955 in Provo, UT to Robert and Betty Alred and was raised in Orem, UT. Chandra married Val Nielson on September 20, 1974 sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple.
She had a passion for her family, reading, cooking and baking. She loved trying new recipes. Many of the recipes have become family staples and are well loved. She found joy in sharing food and dessert with those around her. The love she had for her children and grandchildren is something that will be held onto forever in our hearts.
She was a homemaker until her children were grown. She began working outside the home as a sweeper at Springville Junior High School, then as a school lunch worker at both the junior high and also Sage Creek Elementary School. She left school lunch to work as a bank teller for Wells Fargo until she retired in 2022. She also enjoyed having her hair and nails done while she was working.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to serve. She enjoyed serving as Activities Chairperson and in Activity Days for young girls with her daughter, Stefanie, for many years. She most recently served in Relief Society activities.
Chandra is survived by her children: Stefanie (Jon) Haws, Mandy (Mark) Thomas, Nicholas (Rebecca) Nielson; her beloved grandchildren: Alex, Samantha, Carter, Tate, Mollie, Brooke, Luke; her brother: Thayne (Kathy) Alred; and many other family members and friends who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by husband Val Nielson and parents Robert and Betty Alred.
A viewing was held at Wheeler Mortuary at 211 East 200 South in Springville, UT on March 21st. The funeral service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse at 996 West Center St. in Springville, UT on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. The procession was at the Springville City Cemetery at 400 South 200 West.
Although she is no longer with us in body, Chandra will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and family will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.
