The Basics of Using Your Mind Properly

Out of all of the practical and easy things you can start doing right now, you should start with.avoiding all negative self-talk.

Negative self-talk includes self-defeating phrases like, “I try,” “I can’t,” and “I don’t know.” One of the worst forms of negative self-talk is what are called negative affirmations. These are “I am” statements that are followed by something negative. For instance, “I am lazy,” “I am ugly,” “I am fat.”

These negative affirmations affirm a negative belief system, which allows unwanted stimuli to affect your behavior.

When you use negative self-talk, it’s not just some trivial word coming out of your mouth, or a thought you harbor; it’s literally directing the subconscious mind to do what you’re telling it to do. The subconscious mind is like a genie, and it will move Heaven and Earth to give you more of what you’re telling it.

While this can work for you in positive ways, it can also work dangerously against you. If you tell your brain, “I am weak,” then it will shut down strength and give you weakness. If you tell it, “I don’t know how to escape,” then you just eliminated your ability to know how to escape. The subconscious takes things literally and makes it reality.

It isn’t just about saying positive affirmations out loud, but about making sure that your thoughts align with what you’re saying out loud, and making sure they both align with your goals.

Make a conscious effort to think and say positive affirmations every day until your behavior automatically matches your ideals, because they will reinforce the belief system you want. Even if they feel disingenuous at first, you need to say them, and you need to say them often.

There are several things that you need to consider when creating positive affirmations including, being positive, specific, detailed, keeping them simple, accurate and realistic. State what you want, not what you don’t want because “no,” “not,” and “don’t” are all neutral words to your subconscious. Affirm the activity by saying, “I do,” rather than “I have the ability to,” and make sure the affirmation is in everyone’s best interest.

Another important thing to do is begin affirmations with stem sentences like, “I am,” “I have,” “I do,” and “I feel.” Stating how you feel is especially powerful because it engages the emotion on the subconscious level.

As  a certified clinical hypnotherapist, I want to give you all the following prescription:

Say your affirmations 3 times a day, 4 times in a row, out loud, with emotion and conviction every day for the rest of your life.

Type this into your phone and set an alarm for three times a day. Saying these per the prescription above will help you learn how to bounce out negative thoughts.

Affirmations won’t usually work long-term without the deeper inner work, but they can take the edge off the problem until you can figure out the deeper root cause.

For those of you who have tried affirmations, years of talk therapy, support groups, or medication and still feel stuck, come see me for clinical hypnotherapy. I’ve completed over 2,000 sessions and 95% of my clients report full recovery in just 1-3 sessions. Hypnotherapy works quickly and deeply on a range of issues from anxiety, depression, and fears, to a wide range of addictions.

Serve Daily is a great local newspaper full of uplifting stories. We've advertised the Elk Ridge City Celebration in SD the last two years. Chris is a pleasure to work with and his rates are reasonable.
