Spring is here.
You can feel it in the air. Longer days. A little more warmth. A sense that something new is possible again.
And if you think about it, that’s exactly what hope does. Hope is the belief that tomorrow can be better than today. Encouragement is the fuel that helps us move toward it.
According to American author, Zig Ziglar, “The door to balanced success opens widest on the hinges of hope and encouragement.”
This is not just a great quote—it’s a blueprint. Because no matter where you are in life right now—business, relationships, health, or purpose—you will not move forward for long without hope. And sustaining that hope is very difficult without encouragement.
WHAT IS HOPE?
Hope is more than wishful thinking. It’s a quiet confidence. A belief that your situation can improve. A decision to keep going, even when the evidence isn’t fully there yet.
Hope says: “This isn’t the end of my story.”
WHAT IS ENCOURAGEMENT?
Encouragement is the external voice that strengthens the internal one. It’s someone reminding you who you are when you forget. It’s truth spoken into doubt. It’s belief—borrowed from someone else—until you rebuild your own.
I’ve experienced this personally through people like Rick Hust, a mentor I’ve known for years who saw more in me than I could see in myself.
WHY YOUR INNER CIRCLE MATTERS SO MUCH
According to author, speaker and pastor, John Maxwell, 80% of who we are is defined by two things: the books we read and the five people we spend the most time with.
Take a second and really think about that. The voices you allow into your life are shaping your future.
If you’re surrounded by negativity, doubt, or complacency—it will eventually wear on you.
But if you’re around people who speak about life, possibility, growth, and truth, you start to rise.
THE HIDDEN TRUTH MOST PEOPLE MISS
A lot of people are trying to fight their battles alone. They don’t want to burden others.
They think they should be stronger. They believe they’ll “figure it out.”
But here’s the truth: You were never meant to face your giants alone. Hope and encouragement are not luxuries; they are necessities.
WHO ARE YOUR FIVE?
Look at the five people you spend the most time with.
Do they build you up or subtly tear you down? Do they challenge you to grow—or keep you comfortable? Do they speak hope—or reinforce fear?
Because whether you realize it or not, they are shaping your courage. They are shaping your direction. They are shaping your life.
A SIMPLE CHALLENGE
As spring begins—a season of growth and renewal—take inventory. Add more voices of hope into your life. Limit voices that drain or discourage you. Intentionally surround yourself with people who speak life. And if you don’t currently have that circle, go find it.
Because everything can change when the right voices are around you.
FINAL THOUGHT
Hope is the spark. Encouragement is the oxygen. Together, they create momentum, and momentum is what helps you step forward—even when the giant in front of you still looks big.
