If you’ve taken a walk down Main Street in Springville lately, you may have noticed a new storefront nestled between the Brown Art Gallery and The Rivoli Theater. Inside you’ll find an independent bookstore that has been making its mark in the community for the past two years.
The Pumpkin Cottage began in 2024 with pop-ups at local markets and community events. Those pop-ups quickly turned into a small storefront in the Locket Lofts, located above Pier 49 Pizza. At just 450 square feet, the first location was small, but it gave the bookstore a place to start building a community.
On June 20 of this year, The Pumpkin Cottage opened the doors to its new, larger location at 262 South Main Street, bringing the book store better accessibility with significantly more room for books, events, and community gatherings.
Owner Megan Andrus grew up in a family of educators with a home full of books and has always loved the idea of creating a space where people can find a good book in a cozy, welcoming environment. The Pumpkin Cottage is the natural evolution of that idea with shelves full of a wide assortment of books and bookish gifts and accessories.
The shop carries new releases, offers pre-orders, handles special requests, and celebrates big releases with midnight parties and other special events.
If you’re looking for a new book but aren’t sure what to read next, the staff are always happy to help with recommendations. The shop hosts several free monthly book clubs, with each month’s picks 10% off. For something more relaxed, there’s also a free Bring Your Own Book Pajama Reading Night. Bring whatever you’re reading or pick out a new book at a discount and spend the evening reading alongside other book lovers.
The new storefront also has a distinctly local piece of art. A large floor-to-ceiling mural by Springville artist Brynn Patten (@dr_brynn) covers one wall of the shop, incorporating elements from stories both old and new throughout the design. The mural will also continue to grow and change over time, giving customers new details to discover.
They also host author signings, book launches, special shop events, and gatherings for local community organizations. And with its new location next to The Rivoli Theater, the bookstore is finding even more opportunities to collaborate with neighboring businesses and create new experiences for the community.
That sense of community has become an important part of what The Pumpkin Cottage is building — a place that isn’t home, work, or school, but somewhere people can meet friends, make connections, attend an event, browse for a book, or simply slow down for a few minutes. Like the store’s motto says: Come for the books, stay for the magic.
Whether you’re looking for the newest release, searching for your next favorite read, or simply curious about the storefront you’ve been walking past, The Pumpkin Cottage is open on Main Street and ready to be explored.
