Our sweet mom and grandmama, Margaret Eugenia Wade Runge Humphrey, passed peacefully away on August 21, 2023 in Spanish Fork, Utah. Margaret was born in Cochran, Bleckley County, Georgia on September 22, 1927.
Margaret graduated from Cochran High School, where she thoroughly enjoyed playing on the girls’ basketball team and, while there, developed her lifelong love of dancing.
In 1946, Margaret met Ted Runge while they were both attending Middle Georgia College. They married and had two sons, Rick and Jack. After a brief assignment in Chicago for the military, Margaret and Ted moved to Macon, Georgia. She later married Steeley Hubert Humphrey, Sr. in 1963 and they had one son, Steve LaMont Humphrey. Macon was her home until her move to Springville, Utah in 2014.
Margaret spent most of her career as a sought-after certified bookkeeper, retiring from that profession at the age of 84. She loved doing charity work and serving others. Margaret was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed participating in the Macon Lightkeepers Association, a community service group. She was an avid fan of the Braves and was an especially enthusiastic supporter of Hall of Famer, Dale Murphy. Margaret loved to travel with her family and friends and was an avid gardener. Her beautiful flowers and well-manicured yard were often admired in the neighborhood.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Lucius and Senella Dykes Wade, her devoted older three brothers, Harold Wade, Lamar Wade and Carlton Wade and by her youngest son, Steve LaMont Humphrey.
She is survived by her sons, Jack [Elizabeth “Betty”] Runge of Rising Fawn, Georgia, and Maurice W. “Rick” Runge, her daughter in law, Amy Autry [Steve] Humphrey of Canton, Georgia, her four step-children, S. Hubert [Norma] Humphrey, Jr. of Suwanee, Georgia, Sandra [Barry] Ottley of Bluffton, South Carolina, Maria [David] Sanchez of Bountiful, Utah, and E. Cleon [Nettie] Humphrey of St. George, Utah, her niece, Anne Wade [Steve] of Macon, Georgia, and nephews, Carlton [Connie] Wade Jr., and Robert Wade. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and many blended-family outstanding grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom she was so proud.
The family wishes to thank the many skilled, kind and compassionate caregiver staff at Ashford Memory Care in Springville and at The Hearthstone Manor that took great care of her in the last part of her life.
