The school year is just around the corner, and as the wife of abrteacher, I know all too well how exciting and stressful it is to start a newbrschool year.

brbr

This is why we’ve chosen to focus this month’s edition of ‘I WasbrServed’ on local teachers who have helped our children feel safe and welcome atbrschool, and I’ll start with my own experience.

brbr

“In December of 2017, my family moved to Payson, with several ofbrmy kids being apprehensive about starting a new school, as is pretty much thebrnorm with kids.

brbr

“When my youngest daughter met her teacher, Mr. Nowell at WilsonbrElementary, she had a smile on her face. Mr. Nowell asked my daughter what shebrloved to do, and he allowed her to show him her favorite past-time: doing abrback-handspring — in the classroom. Thankfully, she landed it safely. More thanbrthat, the rest of the school year, my little girl smiled and went to schoolbrwillingly.

brbr

“My elementary-aged sons have both been privileged to have Mr.brHansen, whose quiet demeanor and genuine interest in his students has spokenbrloudly for them to hear. During their time in his class, they each feltbrappreciated, smart and like they belonged.

brbr

“As a parent, I have been served by teachers in this community, brand I am so grateful for them. Here are a few more parents who have also beenbrserved by great teachers.”

brbr

Scott Baird, teacher helped his son transition to high school

brbr

“Mrs. Capell at Mt. Nebo Jr. High went above and beyond for mybrson. She was willing to stay after school and help him with his math. She wasbreven willing to help him once he moved on to high school. Thank you Mrs. Capellbrfor going above and beyond for my son!”

brbr

Taralyn Parker, brteachers produce first school musical, make a difference in students’ lives

brbr

“Christy Nielson and Karen Grant produced the first school musicalbrat Riverview Elementary. They directed over 100 students in a colorful andbrfantastical rendition of Seussical the Musical. Their passion for the arts andbrhard work made a difference in all of the students’ lives – including mybrdaughter’s!”

brbr

Jacoy Jorgenson, brteacher helped autistic son with bullies

brbr

“One teacher that both of my kids had was Ms. Rachel Hammond frombrAmerican Leadership Academy. My son who is autistic had been struggling inbrschool the previous year with bullies, and she knew.

brbr

“On the first day of school she was so positive and asked him tobrbe her helper for the first week. About halfway through the year he startedbrhaving meltdowns and she would take him aside and talk him through them. Shebralways knew how to help him calm down and de-escalate quickly. She would alwaysbremail me and explain what had happened and tell me how she was able to help himbrcalm down and get through the rest of the day. She genuinely cares about herbrstudents.”

Chris is one of the nicest people I know. Serve Daily is his motto, and also his wonderful publication. The stories are informative, entertaining, and it's so much fun to occasionally see people I actually know featured. Every time I see the paper, my spirits are lifted and I am reminded to Serve Daily. Thanks Chris!

Serve Daily is a great local newspaper full of uplifting stories. We've advertised the Elk Ridge City Celebration in SD the last two years. Chris is a pleasure to work with and his rates are reasonable.
