The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District. Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students. Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need. Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.

These grants are funded through the fund-raising efforts of the Nebo Education Foundation board. One fund-raising effort is the annual “Green Fever” golf tournament that helps fund these various grants throughout the year. The “Green Fever” tournament will be Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Also, the foundation accepts donations from individuals and businesses to support projects.

Meadow Brook Elementary – Alexis Christensen

Alexis Christensen, first-grade teacher at Meadow Brook, stated, “Thank you so much for your donation. We are grateful and excited to be able to purchase iPad cases. We have been hesitant to use our iPads up until now because we did not have any cases to protect them. We are very blessed to be able to utilize the technology in our classrooms due to Nebo Education Foundations generous donation of iPad cases. Thank you for the support, it is greatly appreciated!

Sage Creek Elementary – Louise Crook

“The fourth-grade team at Sage Creek is so excited to be selected for this technology grant! We will be purchasing new Chromebooks that will be used by our students on a daily basis. Our team will share Chromebooks in our classrooms as we engage students in all aspects of their learning, including science, social studies, writer’s workshop, language arts, math, and the arts. On any given day, the devices are used for 5+ hours in many different ways. This grant will provide funds enough that each student can work on their own individual device to enhance their learning. Thank you so much to the Nebo Foundation for helping the students in their education!” exclaimed Louise Crook, fourth-grade teacher at Sage Creek Elementary.

Jill Rucker, instructional coach at Goshen, said, “I love the quote, ‘A book is a gift you can open again and again.’ A huge thank you to the Nebo Foundation for the generous grant. The many fabulous fiction and nonfiction books we purchased for our leveled library will give students a whole new world to explore. They will definitely open this gift again and again!”

Salem Elementary – Pam Lynn

Pam Lynn, third-grade teacher at Salem Elementary, said, “Great News! I am very appreciative of the money to buy Logitech Headsets. We have used Dollar Store headphones this year in the classroom and are looking forward to having quality headsets that are durable. The students are also excited to try the out the microphones with their fluency reads. Right now the fluency reads are pretty hard to hear because of all the background noise from other readers. Thank you again for providing accessible funds for teachers, students, and classrooms!”

Park View Elementary – Mary Kathryn Hall

“I am so excited about the books that this grant will help to provide for guided reading early chapter books. These books will go into our leveled library and will be used for students on lower levels in my class who really want to be reading chapter books in guided reading like their peers. Not only will it help with core skill development, but these fourth-grade students desire to be more like the other readers in their class, and reading only picture books tends to make them stand out, and look different. Additionally, many of my colleagues are excited about the addition of these books to our leveled library. Lower grade teachers with students reading above level will be able to use these books for Guided Reading as well as any upper-grade student who struggles with reading. This grant will help to give our Leveled Library the shot in the arm that it needs in this area. Thanks so much!” exclaimed Mary Kathryn Hall, fourth-grade teacher at Park View Elementary.

Art City – Karen Burt

Karen Burt, psychologist at Art City Elementary, said, “Art City Elementary is excited to be expanding our PBIS efforts with the adoption of the Second Step SEL program. Next year, every Art City student will receive lessons in the areas of; skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem-solving / conflict resolution. These easy to implement lessons are developmentally appropriate for each grade level and includes activities for reinforcement and information for parents regarding the skills their children are learning. Also included in this program is a Principal’s Toolkit. This helps the principal to unite school staff with the common SEL language the students are learning and guides discussions with students during visits with the principal. Art City is committed to helping our students learn the life-skills that our students will need to navigate their worlds and reach for their bright futures.”

Spanish Oaks – Susan Phelps

“Students will use these new iPads in multiple ways. 1) They will access reading book apps, such as EPIC, during 20 minutes of silent reading each day. 2) They will use the iPads to practice skills they need additional practice for. I have a time set aside for my resource and self-contained students to get additional practice on unmastered skills, such as handwriting, alphabet recognition, and number writing. 3) Students will use the iPads in our math centers to practice math skills we are currently working on. 4) Students will also use the iPads as a fast-finisher in our classroom. When they complete their work, they can use the iPad to read or use math apps for concepts that we have studied in class. iPads certainly serve as a great incentive to complete their work neatly and in a timely manner. I appreciate the dedication of the Nebo Education Foundation to put tools into the hands of our students to better help them learn, enhance, progress, and enjoy their learning experience.
