Salem Emergency Medical Association offers “Stop the Bleed” class

The Salem Emergency Medical Association (ambulance service) is offering a free course in emergency, severe-bleeding control in conjunction with National Stop the Bleed Day on Saturday, March 31, 2018. The course is part of the National Stop the Bleed Program.

Terrorism, tragic school shootings and even accidental traumatic injuries make this topic vital. Loss of blood is the number one cause of preventable death in trauma incidents. This course covers the use of tools and techniques including tourniquets, hemostatic agents, and “wound packing” for areas not amenable to tourniquet use. Information gathered in recent world conflicts has significantly impacted thought on tourniquet use.

Two classes, accommodating up to 16 participants each, will be offered. The first will be from 8:00-9:45 AM and the second will be from 10:00 AM to 11:45 PM.

The instruction is free. Participants desiring personal materials/equipment will be provided information for purchase from outside sources. Certificates for successful course completion will be provided.
