Springville Junior High students receive mayor’s awards

r Springville Junior High School ninth-graders Kate Southern and Austin Ewell received the Springville Mayor’s Recognition Award at November’s Springville City Council meeting. Both students are excellent examples in reaching out and making a difference in other’s lives.

Kate was nominated by SJHS Dean of Students Shauna Shepherd for her role in establishing a “Bully Box” at SJHS to help address concerns students might have. Kate helped create posters and announcements so students would be aware of the box. Austin was nominated by former teacher Adrienne Murray. She writes, “Austin is an amazing young man who brings joy to the people he interacts with. He is charismatic, friendly, outgoing, kind and thoughtful…. Austin is willing he help everyone.”

We are so grateful for these students’ examples and congratulate their parents as well: Janelle and Michael Southern and Allison and Wayne Ewell. Nominations for Mayor’s Recognition Awards may be made at: http://www.springville.org/mayor-recognition-award/.
