Springville/Mapleton Daughters of the Utah Pioneers

r By Judy ElsnerrFall is in the air and it is that time of year that the Springville/Mapleton Company of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers are anticipating their 2016-2017 activities.rThe organization celebrated the arrival of Brigham Young and the early pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 on September 1st at their annual Jubilee. This is a time when all nine camps of the S/M Company meet together for a program and to socialize. This year John Bessendorfer who owns an artifact museum in Charleston, Utah, was the keynote guest speaker. He is a former teacher and a “Collector and Keeper of the Past”.rIn the September camp meetings the lesson will be “Stories of Kindness on the Trail” and the story of “Beef Steak Harrison” known to the Springville pioneers will be one area of discussion. In October the camps will learn about the Salt Lake City “Pioneer Museum School Room and the Desert Alphabet”.rAnyone interested in joining the DUP is encouraged to go to www.dupinternational.org, then click on “membership” and then “application form” then print and fill out the form.
