Are you ready for a community challenge? If you are between the ages of 8 and 17 years old, you are being challenged to cut 50 lawns for FREE for the elderly, disabled, single parents, veterans, first responders, and anyone else in need of lawn help in our communities.

The 50 Yard Challenge is becoming a worldwide service project that focuses on channeling our youth’s energy in a positive manner that benefits the entire community. It runs under the 501c (3) organization based in Alabama that was founded by Rodney Smith, Jr., titled, Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Service.

While the title indicates that the challenge is just for lawns, it has also extended to raking leaves and shoveling snow.

As a participant, if this challenge is accepted, you’ll need to send a photo of yourself holding a sign saying “I accept the 50 Yard Challenge,” and fill out a short form online. In return, participants receive a white Raising Men / Women T-shirt along with safety glasses and ear protection to get you started safely.

Siblings and friends can also sign up and work together toward their goals. In fact, working with others is highly encouraged.

For every 10 lawns completed, participants will get a new color shirt indicating your progress towards your goal of fifty lawns.

• Once 10 lawns are completed, you will get an orange shirt.

• 20 lawns completed earns a green shirt.

• 30 lawns completed earns a blue shirt.

• 40 lawns completed earns a red shirt.

• 50 lawns completed earns a black shirt.

Once participants reach the goal of 50 completed lawns, each will be presented with a black shirt and brand-new lawn mower, weed eater and leaf blower.

Families with multiple participants will see similar numbers as each participant is responsible for 50 lawns to earn the tools noted above. Each individual earns their own set of equipment.

Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Service has over 450,000 supporters worldwide and over 4,500 youngsters mowing lawns for free in their own neighborhoods and communities.

If by chance not all 50 lawns get completed this year, the count resumes next season where it left off this season.

Families who sign up with three or more kids, will be required to do at least 100 lawns.

Utah has 168 service-minded youngsters already benefiting from this challenge – that’s fifth highest of all the states.

There is an online form that is required to be filled out to join and a safety video that must be viewed. Visit their website for more details at https://weareraisingmen.com/

Participants are asked not to begin until they receive their white logo T-shirt, safety glasses and earplugs in the mail.

If you’d like to support this program in other ways, visit their website and either donate directly or consider purchasing a shirt or hat that will indirectly support those providing services in our local communities.

A huge community difference is being made by mowing, raking leaves, or shoveling snow. These folks and their participants are truly putting the “care” back in lawn care services.

Serve Daily is a great local newspaper full of uplifting stories. We've advertised the Elk Ridge City Celebration in SD the last two years. Chris is a pleasure to work with and his rates are reasonable.
