Delbert Eugene Holt, 83, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2022. He was born on August 15, 1938 in Nampa, ID to Annis L Call and Joseph Alma Holt. He lived in Eagle, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, Spring City, UT, Springville, UT and Orem, UT throughout his childhood years. He later graduated from Spanish Fork High school with his daughter, Sarah, in 1976.

Delbert started baking at 12 years old and was mentored by Lyman Smith “Smitty.” When Delbert first started working in the bakery, the donut fryer came up to his chin. Smitty taught him everything he needed to know in order to bake by himself. He loved learning and baking with Smitty. They became lifelong friends.

At the age of 17, Delbert joined the Navy so he could see the world. He toured Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. He was the baker on the ship.

Delbert married LoRetta Ford on February 14, 1957 in Provo, Utah while he was on leave from the Navy. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on December 16, 1970. The newlyweds made their first home in Seattle, WA while Delbert was based there. While aboard the USS Koiner, LoRetta gave birth to their first daughter, Sarah Ellen. LoRetta and Sarah relocated to Utah in 1959 to be closer to family. In August, they welcomed a second daughter, Anne Marie, into their family. Delbert was honorably released from the Navy shortly after Anne’s birth.

In Utah, Delbert worked as a baker for Albertson’s. His family moved around as he worked in Provo, Salt Lake City, and Tooele. In 1972, Delbert and LoRetta moved to Spanish Fork and bought their own bakery. They owned the DelRetta bakery until December 1977 when Delbert went to work as a baker for the Utah Valley Hospital. He retired from that position in 2001.

Delbert and LoRetta did everything together. They loved spending time with their family. One of their favorite places to be with family was at their cabin, Hideout Ridge, in Duchesne county. They enjoyed long drives through the mountains and became good friends with many of the other cabin owners in the area. They also enjoyed riding their Gold Wing motorcycle on long trips to California, Nevada, Idaho and Arizona.

Delbert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings throughout his life. One calling he especially liked was making the bread for the sacrament every week. He was also a temple worker at the Provo and Payson temples.

Delbert is survived by his two daughters, Sarah Rogers (Dave) and Anne Gygi (Mark); Four grandchildren, Shane Rogers (Katie), Karri Jenkins (Ricky), Angela Rogers, and Joseph Jenkins (Amber); eleven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roger Holt (Jean), Mike Myers (Sandy), and Greg Myers

He is Preceded in death by his wife LoRetta Ford Holt, father Joseph Alma Holt, mother Annis L Myers, step mom Irene Nielsen Holt, step father Fred Harold “Ike” Myers, and both of his sisters, Shirlene Holt Ellis and Nancy Holt Hyman.

Graveside services will be on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Camp Williams Cemetery (17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT 84065). A private family viewing was held previously.

Chris is one of the nicest people I know. Serve Daily is his motto, and also his wonderful publication. The stories are informative, entertaining, and it's so much fun to occasionally see people I actually know featured. Every time I see the paper, my spirits are lifted and I am reminded to Serve Daily. Thanks Chris!

Serve Daily is a great local newspaper full of uplifting stories. We've advertised the Elk Ridge City Celebration in SD the last two years. Chris is a pleasure to work with and his rates are reasonable.
