In Loving Memory of Nora Gaye Lynne Simons Houghton

Gaye Lynne was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away on September 3, 2023. She was born on June 8, 1947, and lived a life filled with love, adventure, and cherished moments.

Gaye Lynne was a force of nature, a woman who touched the hearts of everyone she met. She was a dedicated wife to her late husband, Dennis Houghton, and their love story began at the tender age of 14, a bond that remained unbreakable throughout their lives. Gaye Lynne always held the key to Dennis’s heart, and their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Gaye Lynne was a devoted mother and grandmother, surviving in the hearts of her children: Troy (Bettianne) Houghton, Danny Houghton, Mike (Diana) Houghton, Tiffany (Kenny) Hart, Melissa (Jeff) Kerby, and Jason (Mickie) Houghton. She was not just a mom but also a friend, confidante, and source of unwavering support. Her love for her family was boundless, and her legacy will live on through the generations she leaves behind.

One of Gaye Lynne’s passions was playing cards, and she instilled a sense of competition in all her children and grandchildren. She often said, “If you want to beat me, you have to earn it,” and she relished the challenge of a good card game with her loved ones, especially a good poker party with your pocket money.

In her early years, Gaye Lynne discovered her passion for floral and interior design, a talent that allowed her to bring beauty and harmony to the spaces she touched. Later in life, she also found great joy in painting, using her creative talents to express herself and capture the world’s beauty in her own unique way.

Gaye Lynne had a unique palate and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her favorite indulgences were a McDonald’s Diet Coke with lemon, Dunford Donuts, Whoppers, Hot Tamales, and a Milky Way candy bar. These small delights brought her immense happiness and serve as fond memories for those who shared these moments with her.

Gaye Lynne’s zest for life knew no bounds, and she further proved this by fulfilling a lifelong dream when she ventured to the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska. It was there that she achieved the remarkable feat of reeling in a magnificent salmon from the deep, icy waters of the ocean. Her sense of accomplishment radiated a deep sense of determination and pride, embodying the spirit of a life well-lived.

Additionally, Gaye Lynne’s adventurous spirit led her to the enchanting islands of Hawaii. During her time there, she immersed herself in the mesmerizing underwater world, snorkeling in the crystal-clear ocean waters and delighting in the company of playful dolphins. This tropical adventure was a dream come true, and her eyes sparkled with joy and wonder.

In addition to these remarkable journeys, Gaye Lynne was a true adventurer at heart and embraced every opportunity to explore the world around her. Whether it was embarking on a thrilling white-water rafting excursion with her sister, Debbie, or embarking on a scenic road trip down the coast alongside her beloved husband, Dennis, she cherished every moment of these journeys.

Gaye Lynne leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the enduring importance of family bonds. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will forever warm our hearts.

Gaye Lynne was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Houghton, as well as her parents, Delna Brinkerhoff Simons and Edwin Simons Jr., and her siblings Edwin, Quay, Cheryl, Maureen, and Marsha and she was survived by her living sister Debbie Mortinsen.
