Utah Valley ups its record to 8-6-2 overall on the season and improves to 2-2-1 in WAC play. Chicago State falls to 1-14-0 overall and 0-5-0 in league play.

“Any win is a great win,” said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. “Being back home at Clyde Field and putting three goals up with a lot of shots and opportunities was great. I thought the team played really well. Most importantly we got a lot of our players into the match. They saw some minutes and we were able to get some players some time on the bench so that they could rest and be ready for the match against UMKC on Saturday. I was happy with the performance overall as were able to control the match get the goals we did.”

Utah Valley (8-6-2, 2-2-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute after Alexis Peterson sent ball to the top of the box where Taylor Kirk settled it and fired a shot over the out-stretched arms of the CSU keeper for the score.

The goal marks Kirk’s third score of the season and the 14 of her career. The goal is the seventh game-winning goal of Kirk’s career, which moves her into a tie for second on the all-time UVU career game-winning goals chart.

Freshman midfielder Breanna DeWaal gave the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage in the 25th minute as she sent a pass to the right side to Kirk before breaking towards the goal where she received the ball back from Kirk before sending a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Wolverines found the back of the net early in the second period as Kirk sent a ball down the left side of the field to a streaking Sydney Fitzpatrick who forced the CSU keeper to come out to defend her. Fitzpatrick then passed the ball into the middle of the box to Brenna McCarter, who then sent a shot into an open net in the 46th minute. The goal is McCarter’s third score of the year.

Utah Valley fired a season-high 45 shots on the night, including a season-high 17 on goal. DeWaal led the Wolverines with a game-high eight shots, including a team-best four on goal. Adrene Harding came off the bench to tally five shots, including a pair on goal. Peterson, McCarter and Leesa Stowe each registered three shots on the night.

Sarah Davis played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wolverines. The junior keeper tallied two saves without giving up a goal for her first complete shutout of the season.

Utah Valley will continue WAC play at home as the Wolverines host UMKC on Saturday at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network.
