Community Action celebrating 50 years with free community event
r By Lauren ManzionerCommunity Action Services and Food Bank is celebrating its 50th anniversary by acknowledging the community that helped us grow from a small pantry to an agency that offers dozens of programs and services that have changed thousands of lives.rPart of Community Action’s mission is to foster self-reliance in the community. The autonomy of our community is evident in the way that people take care of each other and how businesses and non-profits support one-another. We are self-reliant as a community because our partners have been arm in arm with us for every stride we’ve made.rThe celebration will be held May 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Orchard, an outdoor venue located on the north end of University Place Mall, 575 E. University Pkwy., Orem.rThis event is perfect for students, families, donors and volunteers. Everyone is invited to attend.rThere will be live music from local bands Festive People and Spirit City. There will also be a visit from Cosmo the Cougar from noon to 1 p.m.rLocal vendors will be selling pizza, tamales, Hawaiian food and snow cones, and The Mighty Baker will provide birthday cake. We will also offer door prizes from Purple, Piano Guys, Chatbooks and Sodalicious. Bring the whole family for kids’ activities including face painting, sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, bubbles and more.rEach of the sponsors, performers and vendors are local businesses that have helped build and strengthen our community. Please join us to celebrate the success we have made together.
