Human remains found in back yard of Spanish Fork residence

r

On May 22 at 10:15 AM Spanish Fork City Police officers were dispatched to 80 North 800 East on a report of human remains being located in the back yard of a residence at the above address. An individual who resided at the residence was moving from the residence and was removing property from a cement cellar located on the property. The individual had noticed an area on the dirt floor of the cellar was sinking and he became suspicious in regards to the cause for the sinking soil. The individual was present with a friend who was assisting in removing items from the cellar.

r

The two individuals dug down into the dirt floor approximately 18 inches and located what appeared to be a human skull. The skull was wrapped in a blanket and plastic mesh. The two individuals immediately exited the cellar and contacted the police department.

r

When the individual was interviewed by police he advised that last year he was informed by an adjacent property owner that a previous tenant who resided at the property was a missing person and she had never been located. The tenant advised that he was curious into what was causing the sinking dirt and he wondered if someone or something was buried in the cellar. This is what motivated the tenant and his friend to dig in the area of the sinking soil.

r

The skull and other remains located will be transported to the State of Utah Medical Examiner’s office for identification.
